Roomba – Power on Seal Lead Acid Battery

This video clip show you that Roomba Vacuum cleaner can be modify to runs on 12V Seal Lead Acid Battery. This will save you some money on buying the original APS battery from Roomba which is quite expensive. I am using this battery for more than two years after the original APS battery retired. A small modification is needed in order to use this battery………Enjoy…

Can the roomba work of 18 volts using a 6V SLA batt? and a 6V SLA or an 18V Drill Battery or is that too much? What is the voltage on the original roomba battery

less voltage means less sucking power… Im sure it can turn those wheels just fine but I cant imagine the weight? to be any less. The bottom line is you downgraded.

Hi. I have not try Lipo battery because its expensive. I also not sure how long will it last. Where as for 12V SLA will last me for about 45 mins when the battery is brand new. ? Base on my measurement, the cut-off voltage for my Roomba is at 11.3VDC. Thanks.

have you tried using lipo batteries with this?? what is the voltage cutoff of the roomba

just do the dam work, we ? know what a roomba looks like…

Hi. Like I mentioned before, a small modification required. As you can? see on the side of the Roomba vacuum cleaner power plug originally is for battery charging purpose. I removed the charging wire and connect the plug to battery terminal directly. So I can supply the power through this plug to Roomba. Enjoy..

Do? you have to modify the Roomba electronics at all, or is it happy to run on the new battery?

Hi. Thanks for your interest. Basically the only disadvantage of using SLA battery was the vacuuming time. Its shorter as compared to the original roomba battery. The achievable vacuuming time? is about 45 mins.

good idea. I’d bet that it would affect the scrubbing power beings that it is less voltage. The 12 volt SLA battery should be a 2.3 Ah which is? roughly the same as the 14.4v NIMH battery that comes with it. Making sure the polarity is right is another thing to consider, thats easy enough.
